Never reach into a machine: call a setter
An operator opened the safety gate on IM-04 and reached towards the mould to clear a stuck part. The interlock stopped the machine and nobody was hurt, but the outcome depended on a single device. The rule is simple: operators do not open the gate and reach in. Call a setter, who will isolate and lock out before clearing. Every shift will have a toolbox talk on this before Friday.

Open mill at Wingfield tagged out
The open mill trip cable was found slack at the start of shift test and the rolls did not reverse within the test distance. The mill is tagged out until the cable is adjusted and retested by maintenance, and the body bar replacement has been brought forward. Do not remove the tag. Compound batches will be finished on the number two mill until the tag is cleared.

Die centring check at every reel change on cable lines
Following the high voltage test failure on reel 14 of the 1.5 square millimetre flexible order, insulation die centring must be checked and recorded at every reel change on every insulation line, not only at start-up. The check is now on the setting sheets for CB-1 to CB-4. Wall thickness must be measured at four points and recorded on the job card.

Splicing cement lot CEM-26-0207 quarantined
Rubber cement lot CEM-26-0207 has been quarantined in the Wingfield flammable cabinet after two tins were found skinned and past their tack time. Site crews must draw cement from lot CEM-26-0221 only and record the lot on the job card. Return any tins from the quarantined lot in crew boxes to the store for reconciliation.

Weekend shift for the Harbourline cable order
Bayswater will run a weekend shift on 26 and 27 September to complete the Harbourline twin and earth order and the following flexible cable orders. The shift is voluntary and paid at award rates. Operators, testers and a reel handler are needed. Tell the Cable Works Manager by 19 September. A supervisor and a first aider will be on site for every shift and the second reel lifter will be in service.
