Purpose. Setters and the technical team use this template to record the validated process for a tool, die or line so that every run is set up the same way and first-off is measured against the same limits.

1.How to use this template

A setting sheet is created at validation of a new tool, die or line and is the controlled reference for every run. Complete every section. Where a parameter has an allowable adjustment range for the setter, state the range; a change outside it must go to the technical team. A new version is issued for any approved change and the old version is withdrawn from the machine.

2.Product and tool identification

Record the part or product number, customer, drawing revision, tool or die number and version, machine, material grade and supplier, colour and masterbatch, and the regrind percentage and source allowed.

3.Material preparation

Record drying temperature and time, moisture limit, hopper settings and any blending ratio. For rubber, record the compound code and batch acceptance limits.

4.Process parameters

Record every temperature zone, mould or die temperature, screw speed and back pressure, injection speed and pressure profile, holding pressure and time, cooling time, shot size and cushion, clamp force, cycle time and, for extrusion, haul-off speed, vacuum and bath temperature. State the setter's allowable adjustment range for each.

5.Inspection points and limits

List the first-off measurements and the in-process checks with their frequency, the drawing dimension, tolerance and measuring equipment for each, and the appearance defects to check for.

6.Packing and approval

Record the packing method, quantity per carton or reel, labelling and any special handling. Record who validated the sheet, the date and the version.

7.Complete the template
