Production Trial Report Template
v1.3
Purpose. Setters, toolmakers and the technical team use this template to record a new tool, die, material or compound trial so that the results, the settings and the decisions are captured for validation.
1.Purpose of the report
Every trial of a new or modified tool, die, material or compound must be planned and recorded so that the settings that worked, the problems found and the actions agreed are not lost. The report is the basis for the process setting sheet and the tool register entry when the trial is accepted.
2.Trial plan
State the objective of the trial, the tool or die, machine, material and quantity of parts or length to be produced, the measurements and tests to be made, the acceptance criteria from the drawing or standard, and the people present. Attach the Job Safety Analysis for the trial.
3.Settings and observations
Record the starting settings, every change made with the reason and the effect, and observations of the tool or die behaviour such as filling, venting, ejection, cooling, die swell and draw down.
4.Results
Record the measurements and test results against the acceptance criteria, the cycle time or line speed achieved, the scrap produced and any defects with photographs.
5.Decision and actions
State whether the trial is accepted, accepted with tool or die modifications, or repeated, and list the actions with owners and dates, including tool modifications, setting sheet creation and customer sample submission.
6.Approval
The report is reviewed by the Tooling and Maintenance Manager and the Technical, Quality and WHS Manager and filed against the tool in the Tool and Die Register.
